Godzilla: King of the Monsters is a 2019 American science fiction monster film directed by Michael Dougherty and a sequel to 2014's Godzilla. It is the third film in Legendary Pictures' MonsterVerse and is followed by 2020's Godzilla vs. Kong.


Set 5 years after the events of 2014's Godzilla (film), the new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters. As the mighty Godzilla, who collides with MothraRodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species – thought to be mere myths – rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity's very existence hanging in the balance.
