Godzilla: King of the Monsters is a 2019 American science fiction monster film directed by Michael Dougherty and a sequel to 2014's Godzilla. It is the third film in Legendary Pictures' MonsterVerse and is followed by 2021's Godzilla vs. Kong.

Synopsis[]

Set 5 years after the events of 2014's Godzilla (film), the new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters. As the mighty Godzilla, who collides with MothraRodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species – thought to be mere myths – rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity's very existence hanging in the balance.


PLOT

Five years after the Titans were revealed to humanity, Emma Russell, a paleobiologist, and her daughter Madison witness Mothra, a larva-like creature, awaken. Emma uses a device called the Orca, which alters the behavior of titans, to calm Mothra. Suddenly, eco-terrorists led by former British Army Colonel Alan Jonah attack the facility, abducting Emma and Madison as Mothra disappears and pupates nearby.

Scientists Dr. Ishirō Serizawa and Dr. Vivienne Graham approach Mark Russell, Madison's father, to track them down. He refuses at first due to his hatred of Godzilla, who caused the death of his son in San Francisco, but agrees. The team follows Godzilla to antarctica.
